Construct and Criterion Validity of the Dutch Workaholism Scale (DUWAS) Within the South African Financial Services Context

This research investigated the construct and criterion validity of English version Dutch Work Addiction Scale (DUWAS) within South African financial services context ( n = 345). A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was utilized to determine psychometric properties (DUWAS-10). Confirmatory factor analysis used latent variable modeling for structural path model validity. One working compulsively items did not perform well omitted establish 9-item scale. Additionally, due problematic discriminant between excessively factors, results corroborate expected two-factor structure. However, revised second-order structure DUWAS showed an acceptable fit data indicating that overall workaholism score is appropriate in this context. Furthermore, had positive relationships work overload, hours, burnout but negatively related engagement organizational commitment. All all, evidence suggested adapted performed well.
